Statement in the wake of the school shooting in Uvalde, TX

Today we mourn the lives lost and families devastated by yet another school shooting. Uvalde, Texas and the rest of the nation has been shattered by the murder of 19 children and 2 adults at Robb Elementary School.

With this now ranking the second-deadliest school shooting in United States history, we are painfully aware that gun violence is the number one killer of children and teens in the United States. Despite continued gun violence in our communities and schools, there has been no significant change in gun laws in the past decade. To that we can only say: our children deserve better.

We ask this question each time this occurs: “How many more?”  Apparently, for many members of Congress, we have not reached the threshold where enough children and adults have been murdered to satisfy whatever sick math they are using to determine the answer.

What will it take?  How much blood and pain are needed to satisfy their lust for power?
