A fundraising & awareness event for MCCOY on November 3

from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM at Tinker House 1101 E. 16th

The Maasai tribe in East Africa has a long, rich history deeply ensconced in having both legendary warriors and an unwavering commitment to their children’s well-being. The traditional greeting passed among the tribe’s people – from its fiercest heroes to its wisest elders – is, “Kasserianingera,” which translates to, “And how are the children?” The expected response is to share that the children are well – that the tribe’s purpose to protect their most vulnerable members is being carried out with compassion and conviction.

Our directive at MCCOY is to make sure that is true of our local youth, and what better way to know than through the voices of young people sharing their truths and adults willing to listen.

Event Impact

When we hosted our first “How Are the Children?” event in 2019, we far exceeded expectations in fundraising, attendance, and impact: 150% over donation goals, sold-out attendance with business and community leaders, and earned over 40,000 impressions online that led to almost 500 new people connecting with MCCOY.

Join us for an uplifting cocktail hour event as we learn more about the triumphs and challenges facing youth in our community today. With pandemic restrictions firmly lifted, we expect to return to full attendance and impact for this event. After a challenging two years, we still want to answer the important question authentically: How are our young people, really?

About MCCOY

The Marion County Commission on Youth, Inc. (MCCOY) was established in 1993 as Indianapolis’ youth service intermediary to build a team of programs, services, and supports that will enable all youth in Marion County to thrive, learn, engage, and contribute. We are the organizing force bringing local nonprofits, community partners, government agencies, faith-based organizations, and schools together to provide impactful opportunities to our young people in our city.

"(MCCOY) has been extremely helpful not only in connecting us with more resources and partners, but also it has provided us professional development training opportunities for our summer programs. "
