Who is MCCOY?
First, MCCOY is not a person! MCCOY is an acronym for The Marion County Commission on Youth, Inc.
MCCOY serves as the catalyst for the positive development of youth across Marion County, Indiana. We help our community do their work to empower every young person to be successful. We know this goal becomes achievable when we join together in a comprehensive, collaborative, and community-wide effort.
MCCOY serves as a resource for information and education, a convener of leaders across the system serving our youth, a trainer to increase and improve the system’s capacity to serve our youth, and an advocate for young people with policy and decisionmakers across the City and State.
Are you a government agency?
No, we are a private, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community-based organization. In 1987, we began as a City-County Council governed organization under Mayor Hudnut’s Administration. In 1994 we became a separate, independent not-for-profit organization.
How is MCCOY funded?
The majority of our funding comes from private foundation-based grants, sponsorships, and donations from individuals.
What does it mean to be an intermediary?
As an “intermediary” not-for-profit organization, MCCOY plays a variety of roles including orchestrating community-wide efforts, providing supportive services to direct-service youth organizations such as staff and leadership training, and acting as an advocate for youth and youth-serving organizations across our community. We work both with local leaders and with organizations and individuals on the front lines of youth development.
Ultimately, our goal is to increase and improve our community’s ability to support young people as they grow into healthy adults. We meet that goal by being a catalyst, by making things happen and sparking positive change.
